2008 Pro-Cannabis Law Reform Ad Contest - $2500 - Open to all - 30 or 60 seconds - Due: January 15th, 2008

November 20th, 2008 · 6 Comments

Building on both last year’s successful Cannabis Clip Contest and this year’s historic observance of America’s 20 millionth cannabis-related arrest on October 10, 2008, the NORML Foundation announces a call for citizen activists, artists, and artisans against cannabis prohibition to submit either a video or flash animation (30 or 60 seconds) for a $2,500 grand prize (and $10,000 in overall prizes). To kick off this educational campaign and contest we choose to use an artistic variation of one of America’s most iconic images, Grant Wood’s ‘American Gothic’, to attempt to convey the common person’s sense of outrage that cannabis prohibition could have ever amounted to 20 million arrests. This prohibition was created and nurtured by the federal government from the very first victim, ‘American Gothic’ farmer-look-a-like Sam Caldwell, to the 20-millionth arrest coming this October.Entries must be received no later than January 15, 2009 at 11:59 p.m ET. All entries must have marijuana law reform as the primary subject and include NORML’s URL (norml.org) within the movie. All entries must be in Flash or digital video and can either be an swf file or a link to a video on YouTube. The three judges are Allen St. Pierre (NORML/NORML Foundation Executive Director), George Rohrbacher (Member, NORML Board of Directors) and asoon-to-be-announced celebrity judge. The prize structure for this year’s $10,000 contest is:$3,500 Grand Prize$2,000 1st $1,000 2nd       $750   3rd And ten $275 prizes for best in show. To enter this Contest click here

This contest is ubsurd! “…twenty million people is enough!” When arrests for the use of Marijuana is enough is when ever delinquent who uses this drug just to get high is arrested! I am disappointed in Vidopp for posting such a contest!

    Hi Cody,
Sorry this contest bothers you. We try not to get involved in judging which contests to show you beyond making sure they are not a scam, and the prize is worth winning.

We post them all, and let you decide which to enter and which to avoid.

Good luck with the ones you do enter,
    Douglas

For the record, personally I don’t think arresting people who use drugs is helping stop the problem, and it is expensive. I’d rather see it attacked through education like the “Don’t be a butthead” campaigns that made a huge dent in smoking. let the police and courts focus on arresting the Wall Street investment bankers robbing us blind!

I see what you’re saying Douglas, good point. Thanks for informing me and special thanks to Pere for the excessively “helpful” message he sent to me on Youtube.
