2012 Take Action Video Contest – $2,500 scholarship – 9 -12th grade Ohio students – Due December 14, 2012

Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine today announced the start of the 2012 Take Action High School Video Contest, which gives Ohio high school students a chance to win college scholarships.
“Consumer scams continue to plague Ohioans of all ages,” Attorney General DeWine said. “This contest gives high school students a chance to educate Ohioans and their peers about scams while demonstrating their creativity and talent.”
Requirements
In their videos, students must encourage their peers to be savvy consumers and avoid scams using one of the following topics:
• Ways to avoid a scam
• Prizes/sweepstakes scams
• Online marketplace scams
• Grandparent scams
• Scholarship/grant scams
The video must encourage viewers to report consumer fraud to the Ohio Attorney General’s Office by calling 800-282-0515 or visiting www.OhioAttorneyGeneral.gov.
The video must be 60 seconds in length.
Videos must be submitted by Dec. 14, 2012
Eligibility
The video contest is open to all high school students, grades 9-12, in Ohio.
Individual students or teams (up to two students per team) may submit a video, though additional students may appear in the video.
Judging Criteria
Call to Action (25 points)
• Is the video motivating?
• Does it incorporate a message?
• Does it tell viewers to contact the Attorney General’s Office (at www.OhioAttorneyGeneral.gov or 800-282-0515) if they suspect unfair consumer practices, frauds, or scams?
Content (25 points)
• Is it appropriate and meaningful?
• Does it incorporate a theme or story?
• Is it original and creative?
Presentation (25 points)
• Does the video flow?
• Is it entertaining?
Duration (25 points)
• Is the video 60 seconds in length? (Every 2 seconds over or under will deduct ¼ of the possible 25 points in this section.
Prize
The top three winning individuals or teams will receive college scholarships of $2,500, $1,500, and $1,000, respectively. The winners also will have an opportunity to be featured on the Attorney General’s website. If a team of two wins, scholarship prizes will be divided among the two individuals.
