Posted on 9:03 am in May 2012, Over $10000 by Lynnie

Lights! Camera! Awesome! The contest is now open for entries, so upload your flick today! As a non-profit, Firefox is the only browser that puts you first. Now we’ve put you in the director’s chair to help spread our message. Just create a short video for a chance to win some amazing prizes. You’ll get a Firefox prize pack just for entering and your submission will be seen by Hollywood judges. You could even meet them at one of four international events and we might feature your video in a global campaign.

Requirements

Mandatory Elements:
1. Firefox logo: Please see our Brand Toolkit details on how to use our logo
2. Call to action
3. Flicks must be submitted no later than midnight Pacific Standard Time on May 1, 2012.
4. Entries should be available in English. They can be created in another language, but if so, please provide subtitles. (Contact us if you’re having trouble with translation or subtitling. We can help.)

Eligibility

The Contest is open to individuals who are at least the age of majority in their country of residence. Minors 13 years or older who reside in the U.S. and minors in certain other countries depending on local laws are also eligible to participate in the Contest but will be required to submit a signed parental consent form with their Entry. Email us at ecompton@mozilla.com for a parental consent form.
The Contest is open to individual developers and teams of up to ten (10) individuals. Teams must pick a team leader, who will submit the team’s video and be the sole recipient of any prizes for the team (in other words there is only one prize per winning video, not a prize for each member of the team).
The Contest is void in Cuba, Iran, Myanmar, North Korea, Sudan, Syria, and any other country subject to a U.S boycott or where prohibited by law or restricted by law or regulations.

Judging Criteria

After the Contest Period has ended, all Entries will be reviewed and judged by a panel of qualified judges from the film industry who will select the winners. There will be a winner and a runner-up in each of the four categories listed below from each of the four geographical regions identified below, and one grand prize winner from each region, for a total of 36 winners. The categories from which winners will be selected are: best 30 second spot, best public service announcement, best animation, and best use of open technologies (e.g: Popcorn.js, HTML5). Entrants select the category in which they want their Entry judged and the region in which they reside at the time of submission.
The regions from which winners will be chosen are (i) the U.S. and Canada, (ii) Latin America, (iii) Europe, and (iv) Asia, Africa, Australia and New Zealand.

Prize

There are sixteen (16) category winners, sixteen (16) category runners-up, and four (4) grand prize winners. The category winners (1 from each category in each region) will each receive $5,000 worth of video equipment (either Mozilla and the winner will mutually agree upon the specific equipment or Mozilla will provide a gift card to a store that carries video equipment, at Mozilla’s sole discretion); provided, however, if a category prize winner is currently enrolled in an accredited film school or film program at an accredited college or university, that winner may elect to receive $5,000 in cash to be used towards school expenses rather than the video equipment. The category runners-up (1 from each category in each region) will each receive $1,000 worth of video equipment (either Mozilla and the winner will mutually agree upon the specific equipment or Mozilla will provide a gift card to a store that carries video equipment, at Mozilla’s sole discretion); provided, however, if a category prize winner is currently enrolled in an accredited film school or film program at an accredited college or university, that winner may elect to receive $1,000 in cash to be used towards school expenses rather than the video equipment. One (1) grand prize winner from each region will receive $10,000 worth of video equipment (either Mozilla and the winner will mutually agree upon the specific equipment or Mozilla will provide a gift card to a store that carries video equipment, at Mozilla’s sole discretion); provided, however, if a grand prize winner is currently enrolled in an accredited film school or film program at an accredited college or university, that winner may elect to receive $10,000 in cash to be used towards school expenses rather than the video equipment. If a team created the winning Entry, the prize will be awarded to the individual who submitted the Entry.
