WaterCan is calling on Canadians ages 18 and up to help end poverty at the source – by creating 30 - 60 second videos about the need for clean water and sanitation in the developing world. Around the world, 1.1 billion people lack access to clean drinking water, and another 2.6 billion lack access to basic sanitation like toilets or safe latrines. The result is a devastating cycle of poverty and disease that claims the lives of over 5000 children each day and hampers nearly every aspect of development from health and education to gender equality and economic growth.
MAKE A VIDEO. MAKE A DIFFERENCE.We’re looking for videos that: Raise awareness of the need for clean water and sanitation in the developing world. Highlight the link between water, sanitation and global poverty.
Encourage people to get involved. Be creative, edgy, original, compelling, funny, clever, or provocative – whatever you need to do to make a video that will get attention and get people talking about this global crisis. And don’t think you have to be a video pro to enter – this contest is for everyone - so get out your camera and get going!
You must be at least 18 years of age to enter and a legal resident of Canada. WaterCan and its panel of judges will choose the finalists and select a winner.
One grand prize will be a no-frills guided trip to Africa to see WaterCan’s clean water and sanitation programs in action, as part of WaterCan’s annual Study Tour in 2009.
