Remember when we asked if you would be interested in a marketplace for video gigs? We called it VidOpp Gigs.
Remember that Gigs is meant to provide you with direct 1:1 paying contracts with businesses for video projects - no contests, no spec work, just projects with defined fees and timelines. Money is collected in advance and held in deposits to ensure you get paid for your work.
After much discussion we decided it was best to separate the Gigs site from VidOpp, in order to allow each site to stay focused. The new site is branded VidBids.com, but it is brought to you by the same hardworking team that brings you VidOpp. We will feature a feed of new VidBids opportunities on VidOpp when the time comes.
We ask that you visit, poke around, register, create a selling profile and portfolio, and give us your thoughts.
We have enabled the use of video in 3 ways - first, a personal greeting in your user profile; second, a portfolio of videos to show your work; and third, the ability to add a specific video pitching your project proposal.
I would be very interested in your feedback. Please feel free to call or write to me directly with your comments, suggestions, issues, ideas - anything we can do to make it better for you.
In the first week of December we will begin to accept new video projects for bidding. Be sure to have your profile complete before that.
Without furthur ado, we welcome you to VidBids!

Best regards,
Douglas at VidOpp and VidBids

I just spent the time to sign up for VidOp Bids. After all my typing and punching that final submit button, all I get is a 404. Awesome, thanks.

Hi Val,
I am really sorry for the trouble. I checked with our hosting provider and our server was overloaded with registrations yesterday, causing some trouble if too many people were trying to submit at one time.
Please try again, and if something like that happens, the form should retain the data if you use the “Back” button.
Regards,
Douglas

I too spent the time to sign up for VidBids. I don’t know if I was supposed to receive a confirmation email, but I never did. Now, using the user name and password I signed up with, I can’t sign onto the site. When I try to get a password sent to me, it asks me the last four digits of my phone number– info that was not asked for or provided during the registration process. So naturally, my request is kicked back. My email to VidBids has gone unanswered. Please help. I would like to keep my username, “grouchobeer”. I love VidOpp and I know VidBids will be great two once they work out the bugs. Thank you.

Hi Groucho,
I took care of this offline with you, but I wanted to make a note to anyone reading the comments that I am sorry for the rough start with the server hanging up on too many requests. We are scaling up and getting the kinks worked out, and appreciate your patience.
Regards,
Douglas

I was able to open an account, but look at your site Douglas… clicking on FAQ links leads to open directory where anyone can see all the files on your server…
No security, and I just submitted all my data. Not cool.
Love your site, and I know you care - but damn, can you hire some professionals to implement your new site without all that nonsense that’s happening now?

Thank you for bringing this to my attention Alex, I appreciate the heads up. I’ll crack the whip on our development team to make sure we tighten this up.

Douglas

The site is pretty rough, but I’m excited about the potential for this.
A suggestion: there’s a heavy focus on videography that will be limiting both your buyer and seller markets. I recommend expanding your categories to encompass things like motion graphics and post-production as well.

Great point Leah, I’ll add that - and your Demo Reel is very impressive! I’d love to have your help with our welcome video if you are interested.

Douglas
