Road-trip fanatics, get packing: In honor of its 50th Anniversary, Motel 6 is issuing a call for three “Open Road Correspondents” to travel and report on some of the best stretches of American highways. Honoring Motel 6′s commitment to sustainability, Correspondents will travel “green” by using environmentally-friendly vehicles and digital map applications to help conserve fuel and energy. Winners also will stay at predetermined Motel 6 locations, several of which have been updated with earth-friendly features, like 80-percent recycled material flooring, low-flow toilets, high-efficiency heating and cooling units and energy-efficient lighting.

Requirements

Candidates(1) can apply on the Road Trip Correspondent tab on Motel 6′s Facebook page between May 21 and June 15 by submitting a two-minute video explaining what makes them the ideal Motel 6 correspondent.

During the Program Period, create a video up to two (2) minutes in length showing why you’d be the ideal Motel 6 Open Road Correspondent. Additionally, you must submit written answers to the following questions:
How do you use social media to share content that interests you?
• What do you enjoy most about road trips?
• How important is green and sustainable travel to you?
• Is there a particular U.S. state or area of the country you’ve longed to visit for the first time?

After you create the video and answer the questions above (collectively, an “Application”), submit the video and the answers to the questions, along with your full name, complete address, date of birth, and telephone number (including area code) to the Road Trip Correspondent Tab on the Motel 6 Page on Facebook.

Eligibility

Open only to legal residents of the fifty (50) United States and the District of Columbia who are 21 years of age or older, have a valid U.S. driver’s license and a valid major credit card or debit card. Participants must be able to travel for approximately seven days (which may be consecutive or non-consecutive at the discretion of the Promoter) between July 16, 2012 and September 3, 2012 if they are selected as Correspondents.

Judging Criteria

DETERMINATION OF CORRESPONDENTS:

Round 1: All eligible Applications received by Promoter will be reviewed and considered based on a variety of factors including without limitation, the degree to which the materials submitted exhibit social media savvy, Participant’s ability to express thoughts and write and speak clearly and eloquently, expression of passion, compelling personality and other factors determined by Promoter in its sole discretion to determine the six (6) potential “Finalists”, subject to verification of eligibility and compliance with these Terms & Conditions. Promoter reserves the right to determine fewer than six (6) Finalists if, in its sole discretion, it does not receive a sufficient number of eligible and qualified Applications.
Round 2: All eligible Finalist Applications will be reviewed and considered by a second panel of qualified judges based on a variety of factors including without limitation, votes received during the Voting Phase, the degree to which the materials submitted exhibit social media savvy, Participant’s ability to express thoughts and write and speak clearly and eloquently, expression of passion, compelling personality and other factors determined by Promoter in its sole discretion to determine the three (3) Correspondents, subject to verification of eligibility and compliance with these Terms & Conditions. Promoter reserves the right to determine fewer than three (3) Correspondents if, in its sole discretion, it does not receive a sufficient number of eligible and qualified Applications. Correspondent status is subject to verification of eligibility and compliance with these Terms & Conditions.

Prize

Winning Correspondents – and one companion each – will embark along one of three classic routes, each approximately 1,000 miles long with four to six city stops, including:
• Route 66 (Amarillo, Texas, to Santa Monica, Calif.)
• The Pacific Coast Highway (Tumwater, Wash., to Santa Barbara, Calif.)
• Southern Route (Austin, Texas, to Destin, Fla.)
Each prize package is valued at $6,000 and includes two third generation, 64GB, Wi-Fi enabled iPads.
