Are you interested in filmmaking? Do you care about school bullying? You are invited to participate in a Diversity Video Competition! The first place winner will receive a $1,000 cash prize and have his or her film premiered a popular film festival in New York City this Fall!
Requirements
Bullying and harassment in schools is sadly becoming more and more prevalent, especially bullying based on race, religion, gender, etc. The Sikh Coalition has documented several incidents around the country of Sikh children being bullied because of the way they look.
The purpose of the Diversity Video Competition is to promote understanding and encourage dialogue on civil rights issues, stereotypes, and myths surrounding minority groups (with a particular anchor in the Sikh experience). It is in this space that submitters may explore, interpret, and express their takes on a specific struggle facing minorities, as highlighted by the prompt.
The Sikh Coalition strives to combat ignorance, and encourage all to embrace their diversity through this artistic dialogue between submitters and the viewing public
Referencing the Sikh experience, please create a 5 minute video (or less) that addresses this issue and possible solutions. The deadline for entry is August 15, 2011.
Eligibility
No film experience is required to participate, and people of all ages are encouraged to submit.
Judging Criteria
Once entries are submitted, a panel of judges will select the top films. The public will then be given the opportunity to view these films and vote for the first-prize winner!
Phase 1: Once all entries have been received, a panel of expert judges will select the top videos.
Phase 2: After the top submissions have been selected, they will be available online so that the public may vote for their favorite video.
Prize
All entries will be eligible for the following awards:
First Place: $1000.00
Second Place: $500.00
In addition, the 1st place video will be shown at the Sikh Art and Film Festival, an annual NYC-based festival conceived to shed light on the Sikh experience. He or she will also be provided two free passes to the Festival and Gala.
Please don’t hesitate to ask any questions in the comments below.

I was wondering if you are aloud to demonstrate bullying.
For example, showing a kid going on Facebook and people calling him names
and saying different types of things.
Thanks, please email me in responce.
Hey Jacob,
Thanks for your interest in our Video Competition. If you do indeed decide to use facebook as a tool to demonstrate cyber bullying make sure you block out any names to maintain privacy. Otherwise cyber bullying can be used as a great way to demonstrate what type of bullying children face. If you have any more questions feel free to call me at (212)655-3095 ext.82
