Why do you love Tryon Creek? The Friends want to know! Amateur and professional videographers are invited to enter the “Why I Love Tryon Creek State Natural Area” video contest.
Whether you are inspired by the hiking trails, the park’s majestic trees, the winding creek, or the simple joy of communing with nature, we invite you to capture your relationship to Tryon Creek and what you love about it in a 30 – 45 second video.
Entries must be original, produced by amateur or professional videographers, and not have been produced for compensation or posted on any other Web page previous to contest entry. Entries must focus on the theme, “Why I Love Tryon Creek State Natural Area”. Videos must include footage of Tryon Creek State Natural Area. Videos should be edited, from live shots or alternating still photos, to be visually appealing and tell a compelling story. Videos must also display the Friends of Tryon Creek logo for at least 3 seconds during the video. A downloadable logo is available. Care should be taken to protect the privacy and identity of minors. For example, please do not use or show minors’ individual names or other identifying information, such as an address, in your video.

The Friends of Tryon Creek’s (FOTC) “Why I Love Tryon Creek State Natural Area” video contest is open to all legal United States residents who as of August 1st, 2012 are age 14 and older. Employees of the Friends of Tryon Creek and Oregon Parks and Recreation Department (OPRD) are not eligible. FOTC is not responsible for transmission failures or errors in any promotional graphics or advertisements. Winners must be in compliance with all contest rules.
Entries will be posted on YouTube and YouTube members will be invited to rate each video to help select the winners. Videos will be posted for ratings from August 1st – October 31st. The winner will be announced on or about November 14th, 2012. The winner will be determined by a combination of YouTube ratings and input from judges from FOTC staff. The decision of FOTC in all matters related to the selection of the winner and all matters relating to this contest are final.
Entries will be judged based upon five criteria: creativity, message content, effective use of contest theme, technical production and overall presentation. Odds of winning depend upon the number and quality of eligible entries received.
There will be one first place prize winner. The prize package is valued at $370 and includes:
• Two Elite One Technical backpacks, each valued at $125, from Columbia Sportswear
• One $50 gift certificate to REI
• One $25 gift certificate to Rock Bottom Restaurant and Brewery
• One $20.50 gift certificate to Voodoo Doughnut
• One copy of Wild in the City: Exploring the Intertwine
Runners-up will receive free Friends of Tryon Creek t-shirts.
