The Radar Festival hosts the best competition anywhere for aspiring music video directors. It discovers and promotes excellent new directors and it encourages creativity and self expression worldwide through the unique medium of music video.
VidOpp Note: Except for students, this contest is NOT free to enter — The entry fee is £10 ($20) per promo. The cost for any subsequent entries is £5 ($10) - so if you send in two promos, it costs £15 ($30). If you are a student, entry is free.
The deadline for submissions is 7th October 2007.
Winners get access to over 20 prizes of label commissions, £1k cash and mentoring from world class production companies. Radar is partnering with 10 labels and 3 production companies to generate opportunities for new talent. Prizes include professional label commissions, professional mentoring and cash prizes. Finalists will get promoted in industry media and on festival tour circuits. Every director gets an evaluation from Radar, up to 240 videos will get seen and judged by record label commissioners.
You confirm that you haven’t been paid as a professional music video director before.
The submission process for this contest is pretty involved:
Please email caroline@radarfestival.com to let us know you are entering and which track/tracks you are using. This triggers your registration and will be the contact we use for confirming your entry and sending your evaluation.
becoming a member of YouTube and uploading your promo as a video file to your own YouTube profile at:
http://www.youtube.com/my_videos_upload
When uploading your entry you must make sure that you set the broadcast options to ‘Private’ and not ‘Public.’ Unfortunately, you would be disqualified if you made your video Public, without agreement at this stage.
Add ‘radarpromo’ as a friend. To do this, click through to:
http://www.youtube.com/radarpromo
and you will find the ‘Add as friend’ link. With your video in YouTube, you then need to click the ‘Share Video’ link underneath the video player. You can then share it with your friend ‘radarpromo’ which will appear in the Broadcast Options list.
Submit your online payment. This year there are two different ways to complete your entry and pay.
For quick and easy payment please use our PayPal checkout at:
http://radarfestival.com/waystopay.html
However, if you have entered film festivals previously, you may already be familiar with using Withoutabox. We are accepting entries and payment at our Withoutabox page:
http://www.withoutabox.com/login/5261
Finally submit your entry and pay your entry fee by credit card and send an email to caroline@radarfestival.com to confirm your entry. If you are a student and therefore making a free entry, you need to tell us here and tell us where you are registered as a student. You also must confirm in this email that you have read the rules posted on this site, that you understand them and that your entry abides by those rules.
Vidopp Note 2: You agree that if a record label purchases your promo, that The Radar Festival is due a 15% fee, ie £150, payable at source. Winners receive full fees from record labels, with no percentages due to The Radar Festival.

To WHom It May Concern:
Hi, how are you doing? I am writing in reference to the Radar Festival Music Video Contest. I would like to submit a video, but I would like to know if the video has to be shot to one of your tracks or if I have a video of my own can I send that one. I can be reached at Bflowers@orderkhaos.com. I look forward to hearing from you soon.
