Electronic musician Moby just handed the DIY-video generation a fantastic Christmas gift.
As every aspiring filmmaker knows, it’s pretty hard to get a decent soundtrack for a low-budget (or no-budget) film. Moby, whose album Play topped the charts in 1999 — and incidentally had songs appearing in just about every commercial you could think of — has decided to license 70 original pieces of music for free to “independent and non-profit filmmakers, film students, and anyone in need of free music for their independent, non-profit film, video, or short.” These days, that includes pretty much anyone with a Sanyo Xacti and a YouTube account. Commercial filmmakers can also use the music, provided that any proceeds are donated to the Humane Society.
Aspiring Tarantinos need only sign in at mobygratis.com to download the music they need.
