The goal? Create an original video, 30 to 60 seconds in length, that highlights the benefits of energy efficiency in an imaginative way. Over $1 billion a year is spent on energy-efficiency programs by utilities and other groups encouraging customers to conserve energy and purchase more efficient appliances and equipment. But just knowing that there are economic and environmental benefits to energy efficiency isn’t enough to get people to actually make changes based on such recommendations. That’s where you come in!
This video contest is seeking your entertaining and creative Visions of Efficiency. We’re looking for videos that help break down barriers to adopting energy-efficiency products and practices. Here are some suggestions of themes, though you should feel free to focus on whatever aspect of energy efficiency you prefer for getting your point across:
Making the effects of energy efficiency more obvious, more memorable, and less invisible.
Making energy efficiency exciting and less boring.
Making energy efficiency less technical and more “human.
“Why should we care about adopting energy-efficient products or practices? What can a person actually do to make a difference and help the environment?”
Ultimately, we want to drive energy users to take action—maybe by purchasing energy-efficient products and appliances, getting an energy audit done for their homes or businesses, finding ways to make their homes or business buildings use less heat and cooling, lowering their carbon output, or by adopting practices for sustainable living.
Please avoid focusing on renewable energy or automobile travel; the focus needs to be on energy use in homes and other buildings.
A team of independent judges selected by E Source will select a grand prize winner, a 2nd-place winner, and a 3rd-place winner based on originality, creativity, and content to be posted on the E Source web site.
Grand prize: $2,000 and one round-trip ticket to Denver, Colorado, for the winner
2nd prize: $1,000
